Diagnosing hand and wrist conditions includes sensory testing, grip strength assessment and specific provocation tests. For carpal tunnel syndrome, we perform nerve conduction studies (electromyography) to confirm the diagnosis and assess severity.

Ultrasound visualises tendons, ligaments and joint surfaces. X-rays are used for osteoarthritis and fractures. MRI may be needed for complex ligament injuries or unexplained pain.

Our goal is to avoid surgery whenever possible. Many hand and wrist conditions respond well to conservative treatment.

Injections are highly effective for carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and tendinitis. Custom splints protect and support the affected area during healing.

Cryotherapy at -110°C reduces inflammation and pain rapidly. PRP therapy stimulates tissue regeneration for chronic tendon and joint problems.

Specialised hand physiotherapy restores mobility, strength and fine motor function.

Hand and Wrist Specialist in Palma de Mallorca

The hand is essential for virtually every daily activity. At our practice in Palma we treat a wide range of hand and wrist conditions with a conservative approach, reserving minimally invasive surgery for cases that genuinely require it.

Common Hand and Wrist Conditions

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome: Nerve compression causing tingling and numbness
  • Trigger finger: Tendon sheath inflammation causing finger locking
  • De Quervain's tendinitis: Inflammation of thumb tendons at the wrist
  • Rizarthrosis: Osteoarthritis of the thumb base joint
  • Ganglion cysts: Fluid-filled lumps near joints or tendons
  • Dupuytren's contracture: Progressive finger flexion deformity

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common nerve compression conditions. Night-time tingling and numbness in the thumb, index and middle fingers are the hallmark symptoms. We confirm the diagnosis with nerve conduction studies and begin with conservative treatment: night splints and targeted injections. When surgery is needed, the minimally invasive endoscopic release is performed as a day case with rapid recovery.

Cryotherapy for Hand Inflammation

Whole-body cryotherapy at -110°C is an excellent tool for reducing inflammation in the hand and wrist. It benefits patients with tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and osteoarthritis. The systemic anti-inflammatory effect is complemented by improved circulation and pain relief.

PRP for Chronic Tendon Problems

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) offers a regenerative approach for chronic tendon and joint conditions in the hand. Growth factors from your own blood are injected under ultrasound guidance to stimulate tissue healing. It is particularly effective when other conservative treatments have provided only temporary relief.

Sports-Related Hand Injuries

Hand and wrist injuries are common in cyclists, climbers, golfers and racquet sport players. As a qualified sports scientist, Dr. Diedrich provides sport-specific diagnosis and rehabilitation. We address not only the injury but also the biomechanical and technique factors that caused it, linking treatment to related conditions of the elbow and shoulder.

When Is Surgery Needed?

We recommend surgery only when conservative treatments have been exhausted. Procedures such as carpal tunnel release, trigger finger release and ganglion excision are performed as minimally invasive day-case procedures under local anaesthesia, with most patients returning to normal activities within 2–4 weeks.

Consultations in English, Spanish and German. Call +34 971 68 43 45 to book your appointment today.

Frequently Asked Questions

Carpal tunnel syndrome causes tingling and numbness in the fingers due to compression of the median nerve at the wrist. Initial treatment includes night splints and injections. Minimally invasive surgery is very effective if conservative treatment does not provide relief.
Surgery is considered when there is persistent loss of sensation, muscle weakness or when injections do not provide lasting relief. It is a day-case procedure under local anaesthesia with rapid recovery. Most patients return to normal activities within 2–4 weeks.
Rizarthrosis is osteoarthritis of the thumb base joint. It causes pain when gripping or pinching objects. Treatment includes injections, custom splints and physiotherapy. Surgery is only considered for severe cases that do not respond to conservative measures.
Trigger finger occurs when a tendon sheath becomes inflamed, causing the finger to catch or lock in a bent position. Injections resolve the condition in many cases. If symptoms persist, a small surgical release can be performed as a day-case procedure.
De Quervain's tendinitis (inflammation of thumb tendons at the wrist) usually responds well to splinting, injections and physiotherapy. Cryotherapy helps reduce inflammation. Surgery is rarely needed and is only considered after conservative treatment has failed.
Whole-body cryotherapy at -110°C reduces systemic inflammation, which benefits inflammatory conditions of the hand and wrist such as tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and osteoarthritis. It provides rapid pain relief with no side effects.
