PRP Therapy – Regenerative Treatment Palma Mallorca
Platelet-rich plasma therapy for knee, shoulder, back. Promotes natural healing without surgery. English-speaking specialist Dr. Diedrich. 4.9 Google rating. Book online.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) uses growth factors concentrated from your own blood to support the natural repair processes of tendons, ligaments, muscles and cartilage. As with any medical procedure, an individual risk-benefit assessment is carried out before treatment.
By concentrating platelets from a small blood sample, PRP draws on the body's own regenerative capacity. Clinical evidence varies by indication and is best discussed in consultation.
We draw 20-30ml of blood. It is centrifuged to concentrate platelets (5-10 times higher than normal blood). The PRP is then injected into the damaged tissue under ultrasound guidance. The entire process takes 30-40 minutes.
You may experience mild soreness at the injection site for 24-48 hours. This is a normal part of the healing response. You can resume light activities the same day.
Gradual improvement typically over 4-6 weeks, with continued consolidation up to 3-6 months. The duration of effect described in the literature ranges from 12 to 18 months (see AWMF Guidelines 033-053 and 187-074, Cochrane CD010071). Individual response varies depending on the indication, tissue condition and concomitant therapy.
PRP – Regeneration with Autologous Growth Factors
PRP is used in sports medicine and in chronic tendon and cartilage conditions. The aim is to support the body's own repair processes through concentrated growth factors. As with every medical procedure, an individual risk-benefit assessment takes place during the consultation.

Growth Factors in PRP
- PDGF: Stimulates cell proliferation and tissue repair
- TGF-B: Regulates inflammation and fibrosis
- VEGF: Stimulates new blood vessel formation
- EGF: Accelerates tissue healing
Conditions Treated
Chronic tendinitis: Epicondylitis, Achilles tendinitis, patellar tendinitis. PRP regenerates the damaged tendon at a cellular level.
Early osteoarthritis: Knee, hip, shoulder. PRP improves cartilage quality and reduces pain, delaying or eliminating the need for joint replacement.
Sports injuries: Muscle tears, ligament injuries. PRP accelerates recovery. See our pages on cycling and tennis injuries.
PRP for Athletes in Mallorca
Mallorca is Europe's leading sports destination. Professional and amateur athletes from across the world train here year-round. PRP allows faster recovery from training injuries, meaning less time away from sport. It is completely legal, natural and permitted under all anti-doping regulations.

Characteristics of PRP Therapy
- Uses your own (autologous) blood
- Because no foreign tissue is used, rejection reactions are not expected
- Aim: support the body's own repair processes via growth factors
- Duration of effect described in the literature between 12 and 18 months
- Can be combined with rehabilitation and with shockwave therapy
- Pairs effectively with whole-body cryotherapy at -110°C to control inflammation during the regeneration phase
Risks and Contraindications
PRP is not suitable in: active infection in the treatment area, haematological disorders (e.g. thrombocytopenia below 105,000/µl), active malignancy, pregnancy and breastfeeding, NSAID intake within 7 days before and after treatment, and during anticoagulation therapy. Possible side effects include temporary increase in pain (24-72 h), haematoma, local swelling and, in rare cases, infection. Allergic reactions to the citrate anticoagulant or local anaesthetic may occur in isolated cases. Full information is provided in the pre-treatment consultation.
PRP vs. Corticosteroid Injections
While corticosteroids provide rapid symptom relief, they can weaken tendons with repeated use. PRP takes longer to show results (4-6 weeks vs. 24-48 hours) but achieves genuine tissue regeneration that lasts 12-18 months. For chronic conditions, PRP is the superior choice.
